MARTIN AITKEN has translated numerous novels from Danish and Norwegian, including works by Karl Ove Knausgaard. For The Employees by Olga Ravn, he was shortlisted for the International Booker Prize 2021 and the Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction 2022, among other prizes. He was a finalist at the U.S. National Book Awards 2018 and received the PEN America Translation Prize 2019 for his translation of Hanne Ørstavik’s Love.

KIRA JOSEFSSON is a writer, editor, and translator working between English and Swedish. The winner of a PEN/Heim grant, her work has also been shortlisted for the Bernard Shaw Prize. She lives in Queens, New York, and regularly writes on US events and politics in the Swedish press.

MISHA HOEKSTRA
has translated numerous Danish authors, including Hans Christian Andersen and Maren Uthaug. In 2017, he received the Danish Translation Prize, and his translation of Dorthe Nors’s Mirror, Shoulder, Signal was shortlisted for the Man Booker International Prize.

DENISE NEWMAN is a poet and translator based in San Francisco. She is the author of five poetry collections and the translator of Azorno and The Painted Room, both by the late Danish poet, Inger Christensen, and by Naja Marie Aidt, Baboon, winner of the PEN Translation Award, and When Death Takes Something From You Give It Back: Carl’s Book, a semi-finalist for the National Book Award.

SOPHIA HERSI SMITH is a translator living in Copenhagen. She received an American-Scandinavian Foundation Award for her co-translation of Rakel Haslund-Gjerrild’s All the Birds in the Sky in 2020. With Jennifer Russell, she has translated fiction and poetry by Danish writers such as Tove Ditlevsen, Olga Ravn, and Marianne Larsen. Their translations have appeared in The Paris Review, Granta, Asymptote, EuropeNow, Poetry International, and on stage.

SASKIA VOGEL is an author and translator from Los Angeles, now living in Berlin. Permission (2019), her debut novel, was published in five languages and longlisted for the Believer Book Award. The Swedish edition was translated by Johanne Lykke Holm. In 2021 Vogel received the Berlin Senate Grant for Non-German-language Literature and was a PEN America Translation Award Finalist. She is Princeton University’s Fall 2022 Translator in Residence.
